The word was utilized by the Junto Club, founded in 1727 by Benjamin Franklin. The Junto Club, was a group of intellectuals and civic leaders in colonial Philadelphia, who met regularly to discuss and debate philosophical, political, and economic issues of the day. The Junto played a significant role in the development of the American colonies, and its legacy can be seen in the many institutions and organizations that have continued to serve as centers of intellectual and cultural life in the United States.
